A New TextBook!
I have been on the not-so-text-book theme for a couple days now, but today I got to pull out the original! They say a female Chihuahua can have their first heat from 6 months on. Some have been known to have it as early as 5 months, but I have always experienced it at 8 to 9 months. So when the boys started showing a LOT more interest in Colada this past week, I thought it was just them vying for dominance. I picked her up to look for swelling or a bit of blood a few times, questioning my assumption, but there was no difference. That was until today. It was as if the change occurred right before my eyes. An hour ago she was normal - then she was swelled up! Buddy whining to get to her and J.B. lifting to actually MARK her was the final confirmation. She is officially in her first heat and separated from the boys. I expected her to be a whining one, to get to her best buddies Dewey and Ace, but she is actually handling it quite well. Clearly, enjoying the full-time access to the cool tile floor :)
