A Miracle!

At 3 lbs 12 ozs, CC is a very tiny dog that as I have explained, is on the shy side. When she opened up so quickly to her new family, I knew in my heart that she was in the perfect home and in time, she would adjust to their lives and schedules. Unfortunately, our schedule here may have inadvertently caused a horrible situation for her new family. They were taking the girls out for a walk and had yet to clip on CC's harness and leash when they opened the door. Thing is, in our house, the dogs have free access to the door leading out to the backyard. We open that door with excitement and out they dart. The excitement in their voice as they opened their FRONT door and CC's lack of experience with how THEY run things led to her darting out into the neighborhood in the dark of night. They spent hours looking for her and her shyness mixed with what I am sure was pure panic, lead to no one being able to find her. This was FIVE days ago!

I have heard of dogs getting out and surviving on their own for a night or two - but five? Missing dog signs, calls to the shelters and searching the neighborhood was a constant but as the days passed, we all starting loosing hope. That was until the call they got yesterday morning saying that she was found!!!

She lost some weight, was a bit dehydrated and in need of a bath, but as soon as she saw her new people - she never let them out of her sight! A check by their vet says she is fine and is quite the tough cookie to go through what she did. I don't think she will be darting out the door again! And when I saw this photo I had to chuckle. They have her leashed!!! Just in case she feels the urge, a collar with a tag and a leash to grab is about as safe as she can get!

A Perfect New Home

We have finally found the PERFECT home for sweet CC. Her needs list has expanded beyond a calm home. We now knew she needed a doggie friend - Preferably another female. The search resulted in a home that filled all of her needs and then some! She cuddled up with her new family almost instantly when she was picked up yesterday - including her new bestest buddy Pinkett. I am so happy for CC - She so deserves the perfect family and we finally have found it for her!

Or at least the neighborhood.

CC is at the tail end of her heat so she is staying here for a bit longer. Today I caught her checking out the gate that opens up the front yard. She never attempted to get out, but her attention was definitely piqued by the new sights and smells. A woman on the prowl!

Bringing Her Out Of Her Shell

CC has always been on the shy side and has her favorite people that she will run to for cuddles and affection. She was also very close to Dewey and Ace - but with her being in heat, they have had to be separated from her. She has had to make "new best friends" now and it has been amazing to watch.

It started with Colada, following her everywhere and napping with her every chance she could get. One by one,  as the girls started to enter their heat cycles, the "dominating" began. I fully expected her to be the submissive one. Ginny glommed onto her almost immediately. (which is quite the sight I must say!)  But now she too has been taking turns with the others, bonding with all of the girls in the house. She truly has blossomed into a social dog's dog! So cool to see!

Adding Her To The Mix

CC is back for a visit and the timing is perfect! With the other girls here in heat, she fit right in since she too is now in her first heat! One thing I love about dogs is how they so quickly adjust back to our house and pack when they come for visits. Since CC will be here for close to two weeks, it makes it so easy to dog-sit! And she is totally loving the screened porch and access to the backyard - Boy is she into running around free! One thing I have noticed though is how much like her mommy, Blue she is! Look at this! She LOVES to curl up in the chair just like Blue! She will sit up on the back of it too and soaks in all of the action.

Lady Lake Adventures

I got a call  this week from Mrs. Garcia with some concerns over sweet CC. She absolutely adores her and hated making the call, but her puppy energy is just a bit too much for her to handle. CC plays a darting game at the door and she is afraid one time she won't be able to stop her and CC could get hurt - or lost.  So today we drove out to Lady Lake to pick her up and bring her home.

The moment CC laid her eyes upon me, she practically jumped into my arms. That's quite a height to jump for her! She gave me tons of kisses and was beyond excited to see me! SO Sweet! We promised Mrs. Garcia we would find her the perfect match - a more laid-back and subdued Chi.

Since we were in the area, I decided to bring MiMi so that she could get her rabies vaccine. Dr. Mario gave her a quick but through exam and then her shot. Now in the past, some of Ginny's pups have had reactions to vaccines. Dewey had reactions from his rabies! But they have always shown up within minutes of the vaccine being administered. Doc then gives an injection of cortisone and all would be well. Poor MiMi's reaction didn't appear until almost 2 hours after! We were actually still on the drive home when she puffed up and turned every shade of pink. POOR THING! A quick call to his office and a stop at the drug store, we gave her some Benadryl in the car and a cool bath after we got home.

I Love My Vet!!!

We headed out to see Dr. Mario today to get the puppies' vaccines and Health Certificates and to complete my Health Testings (patellas and hearts). They all - pups and adults - were given a perfect bill of health! We also brought CC to see if Doc could help me find the perfect home for her. With the many clients he has, I knew he might have a few in mind to suggest.

It only took a minute for the name to come to his mind and 30 minutes for her to drive up to his office. Mrs. Garcia lost her sweet Chelsea last week. She was an older Chihuahua that passed away due to heart failure. Mrs. Garcia was looking for a sweet lap-lover that would bark when a visitor was at the door, sleep and cuddle with her at night and lay with her on her couch during the day. CC was the PERFECT fit! She nuzzled up to her almost instantly after Doc placed her in her arms. The smile on her face was it all - We now have TWO very happy girls!

Their True Personalities

The pups have been spending a lot more time out of the pen and playing with us and the others dogs. With Mimosa being just over a month older, she is their main playmate - or should I say- play TOY. They constantly seek her out. CC has also become fascinated with the little ones, often times joining in their play.

As I watch the girls play, I can see clearly that Dixie is the pistol of the bunch while Ebony is more of the easy going one that takes it all in stride. And when given the option, they both start by wishing to be with their humans but Dixie eventually wanders to her doggy friends while Ebony will stay in her peep's lap for cuddles. Basically, their forever families are totally perfect for their personalities!

Our Sweet CC

CC is such a sweet girl and we are looking for the perfect forever home for her. She is on the shy side and takes a bit to warm up to new people but once she is comfy - it's all love and kisses from there. She is tiny - and seems to find the big world we live in a bit intimidating. The ideal family for her would be in a quiet home. She loves to spend time with my daughter, so a family with children would be fine, but they need to be 10 or older. Be sure to contact me if you think you may be her perfect forever family.

The Other Side

Oh good GAWD! We are in week 5 of Colada's heat today. I have worked very, very hard to keep the infamous gate jumper from our sweet little girl and now that J.B. is in his new home,  I feel MUCH better. Of course, without his oversensitive nose to tell me when the heat is over, I am winging it.

She is no longer in standing heat but the boys are still on her constantly! I am going to give it another week with her separated from the boys and CC has been great company! The two have bonded  and keep each other entertained while the boys sit on the other side of the gate wishing they could join in the fun.

Sweet CC

I feel so blessed to have the chance to bond with sweet little CC. She has adjusted to live in our house perfectly and I can really see the traits that she got from both mom AND dad!

She has her mommy Blue's amazing smooth coat and slender frame. She is a jumper too! Easily jumping up on the the BACK of the couch! She also has her daddy Dewey's attentive ways and his desire to either ball up for a cuddly nap or clean your nose and ears. Such a perfect blend!

Walked Right In...

...like they owned the place! The friends of our that gave CC a try with their family, puppy-sat little Mimosa while we were off on our camping trip. Today they both came back here to us, with their house being their own "lil vacation spot". Their home is a bit more active that ours and the girls had a bit of a time adjusting to so many human feet and voices. When you are mere inches off the ground, lots of commotion can be a bit too much to handle.

When they came home, they jumped right into the pack like they never left! Granted, CC hasn't lived here since she was 8 weeks old but the sights and smells were very much in her brain. She jumped right up onto the couch, her comfy spot. Mimosa ran right to her mommy Ginny, who was equally as excited to see her baby girl, and seemed to bring CC over for an introduction, as if saying, "Hey Mommy! Look at my new friend!" So cute!

The Little Mermaid

CC has a new home! The little princess tricked both Karen and I when it came to her weight. She charted in at almost 7ozs when she was born. In a perfect text-book world, that would equate to a 7lb adult weight. I never use the charts to state adults weights, but it usually works as a wonderful guide to help estimate using a puppies parents and past 6 generations to make my educated guess. Blue's puppies ALWAYS throw me a huge curve ball and CC's tiny weight is the proof!

Both Karen and I are not comfortable breeding females under 5lbs. 4.5 lbs has been done, but not without careful planning and a lot of nail-biting. CC hasn't even reached 4 lbs! YIKERS! There was no use in waiting inevitably for her to only remain tiny. While she is still under a year old, placing her in a home where she could be the princess was Karen's wish. I had the perfect home in mind to fulfill that wish!

My friend Patti had Ace with her and her family for several months, only to find the marking a bit too much to deal with. A female would be the perfect choice for them and CC fit the bill! They are a social family and CC is a social butterfly. And come to find out, when I brought her to her new home this afternoon - she loves to swim too! Which is a good thing because they have a pool that the family spends a lot of time in. Within an hour of her arrival, she jumped right onto the floaty and enjoyed keeping cool with the rest of us!
