The Girls Are Back!

The end of the camping trip also meant the end of relaxing and back to burning the candle at both ends. The drive home yesterday included dumping the camper, running to our son's football game, driving back home to unpack and then back out to pick up the girls! Wheeeewwww!

They did SO great - making mommy proud - and comfortably napped for the ride home. Driving home in the dark I was sure it would make them wonder where they were going next. Nope - Totally comfortable in their skin and their element. Back home they went and their comfy beds they would soon be in for the rest of the night. We will be spending Valentine's Day back all together again!

The Girls Are Having a PAR-TAY

We are about to embark on our first camping trip of the year and with some of he girls still in some stage of their heat, Karen offered to dogsit for us. WE ALL LOVE KAREN!!!

Baby and Colada have spent time there before but this would be Ginny's first time. I dropped the girls off last night but  I wanted to stick around for a bit to see how she adjusted. Within a few minutes, she was up on the back of their couch, just like she does at our house - A sign that all would be well. Here is a photo Karen sent me after I left. Oh yeah - they are doing JUST fine!

My Riding Buddies

The ride home was actually shorter - By a full hour! That was a nice way to end the trip!  And the two dogs that remained in my lap for the full 7 hours? Cosmo and Dewey!

These two napped, cleaned each others ear and periodically peeked out the window to check status and location. They make perfect companions for the trip.

On The Mend

Baby's eye is SO much better! It's now open, shows no irritation and the medicine has done it's job. Of course I won't tell Dewey that.

He is totally convinced that he is the healer of Baby. He hasn't left her side!! In his mind, his affectionate love licks and cuddles are what got her through so I will let him keep on keepin' on!

This Was a Doozer!

At first glance this morning, Baby's eye was definitely bringing her pain and with Doc's first glance he thought it was a scratch. Once he got a better look, he was able to see that there was actually something still IN her eye! Poor Baby!!!

She had to be a bit sedated to be able get the piece out. If you look real close at the end of the swab you will see the tiny speck that was stuck in her eye. Doc says within the next few days and some antibiotics, her eye should heal nicely and she will be able to keep her eye open again. I miss her sweet eyes!! And I cant wait for her to feel her happy go lucky self again.

On a side note, Chicatoo came along for the ride for her vaccines. She was such a good girl! Not a whimper or whine and she totally licked and loved on everyone. That's our girl!

He's Our Resident Nurse

Dewey has this way about him where new knows just who and when a little affection and attention are warranted. He can become the perfect heating pad for sore muscles as well has the licker and cleaner of all wounds.

Last night after we unpacked, I noticed that Baby's right eye was bothering her and by this afternoon, she was holding the eye closed. The tighter the eyelid became, the more Dewey stuck by her side. SOOO sweet!

Now with a breed with such prominent eyes, irritations are rather common. An eye wash/drop usually rids the dust and dirt Chihuahua eyes can gather but this time, it wasn't doing the trick. We have an appointment set for tomorrow morning with Doc to have it checked out. Until then Dewey will be her nurse.

The Sweetest Eyes

I loves how our sweet Baby uses her eyes to tell you just how she feels. They speak volumes and share her true love of live in this family. She is queen bee here and has everyone wrapped around her little dewclaw. It's those eyes! THOSE EYES!!!!

Such a Smart Girl

Man oh man has this heat season been an odd one. Ginny entered standing heat earlier than anticipated, Colada went back into heat way too early, Capri will let any female climb onto her back end but growls viciously when a male gets close and now Baby shows no swelling or discharge even though she is humping everything that moves and is due to come into heat.

But Baby has been around here long enough to see the separation of the girls as a way to work the situation into her favor. She is our dominant female and has shown her place in the pack through her humping. When you watch her in action you can see just how exhausting it is. She has actually trimmed her stocky shape over the last few weeks!!! And a work out like that with such extremely hot temperatures, the tile floor in the kitchen is the best way to cool oneself.

Still Not Too Sure!

When Baby starts humping away at everything that moves, it has always been the tell tale sign that she is going into heat. She has been humping her way through every girl in the house for the past week and has even made the doggy beds her own pleasure slaves. Lately her fixation has been on Colada - pleasuring herself and then lovingly licking her face. Sweet and funny at the same time.

So humpity-do-dah all day long for our sweet Baby - but no other signs of heat yet!

Baby to Be Snipped

Poor Baby gets tossed into heat every time she is around a female in her prime. It was just in June when she was last in heat - and today she too is getting the attention from the boy. Poor thing!

I have been saying this for a while but I think this is it. It is time for her to be spayed. After this heat is over, I am going to schedule the surgery. She is such a sweet girl and has produced some of the most precious puppies but she is still young and deserves the chance to live out the rest of her life without the hormonal ups and downs.

More Text Book Findings

Leave it to our sweet and adorable Colada to fill all of the "could" items in the breeding dogs textbooks. We have grown so accustom to the norm with our other females that her "as early as 6 months" heat arrival threw us. But now after 6 weeks and her still enticing the boys, I had to go back to the books.

Normally, the 21ish day cycle's 2nd phase of standing heat begins around day 10. This is also when J.B. tells us the girls are ready by screaming, whining and jumping to get at them. I wondered why we had blood and no J.B. antics 4 weeks ago but thought maybe his sniffer was off. When the other boys went into overdrive last week, that's when I drug out the books. Colada's first heat is a "split heat". She never ovulated the first time. So she has about 1 week to go of her actual heat! Of course she has company right now. Baby is smack-dab in the middle of her standing heat now too!

Hey Booooys

Another sign that Baby might have been brought into heat by Colada - The non-stop ear cleaning.

Baby's way of flirting is in the form of cleaning the ears of boys within reach. And she isn't a quiet ear cleaner. Her slurps can be heard from across the room as as soon as the others figure it out, they get in line for her special service.

The Girl's Will Have A Fun Weekend Too!

Colada is still in heat and possibly throwing Baby into hers. Spending Memorial Day Weekend smack dab in the middle of a State Park is NOT a good idea! They would attract way too many unwanted guests and of course, keeping them separated from the boys in the camper is just not easy to do. Karen has offered to dog-sit the girls while we are gone and I drove out to drop them off this afternoon since we are heading out tomorrow morning.

Baby is our dominant female in the house but usually adjusts perfectly when visiting at other homes. I know she will meet her match with Chica so I cannot wait to get a report on her behavior once we return. I am sure there is be at least on growl session over food or a toy.  But Colada is such a dog's dog, she will love to play with Karen's puppies and will love the extra attention for sure!

The moment we got there, I let them potty and Karen and I had to chuckle at their instinctual reaction. BOTH girls walked over to the tree in her yard and marked it! Leg lifting and everything! They made it known to Karen's Krew they were there!!! I wished they were instead making it known just how appreciative I was for the offer to watch them! They have NO idea how lucky they are :)

Boys in Waiting

The rain is finally falling form the sky today. The dogs may not be too happy about it but we humans sure are! The boys have spent the afternoon in the living room with us while the girls have been in the kitchen. I have spent hours watching the boys parade in front the door separating them from the ladies - they must have each walked over a mile in pacing! Between the exercise and flowing testosterone they are ZONKED!!! Seeing them all ball up in the doggy bed closest to this same door spoke a thousand words!!

Loner Girl

The weather is finally nice again and the dogs have totally enjoyed their playtime in the backyard. They really seem to have missed it. The moment they hear the clang on the gate they know...It's time to RUN!!!

Well, lately Baby has gone in the opposite direction and prefers the comfort of the A/C. Perhaps it is her darker color making her hotter faster?  Or it could just be that the rest of the dogs soak up all of the sunlight that beams in through the windows in the house and she can finally have them all to herself?

She's Such a DUDE!!!!

Baby remind me of a teenage boy trying to get away with something when no one is watching. She has always had that trait and it has always brought me to giggles. Now today's stunt brought me to a roaring chuckle!

Our little princess decided she needed to hump Dude while he was napping. Like a horney teen copin' a feel, she snuck in and went to town - with a simultaneous ear cleaning as an added bonus of course. The jostling woke him but he didn't seem to care once he caught on to what was happening. It took a moment for them to realize anyone was in the room and once they did - their looks were priceless - YIKES! We're Caught!

What Ya Up To?

J.B. is such an opportunist napper. Rarely will you find him napping on his own - body warmth from others appears to be a must for this little man.

Today I watched him stroll up to Baby while she was napping, slowly wiggle his way up next to her and then carefully placed his head on hers. Kinda like a man sneaking into bed next to his woman after a late night out. Makes me wonder WHERE he strolled in from!

Don't EVEN!

With all of the commotion from the weekend, I apparently dropped the ball on my post heat norm. Usually, after our females' heats, they get a luxurious bath and spa treatment, making sure that all of their hoo-ha juices are G-O-N-E! Nothing more annoying than unwanted attention from frustrated boys!

Baby didn't get her scheduled bath and today, J.B. caught wind of that. He was following her EVERYWHERE!!! She would turn around and growl with a periodic snip to keep him away. Whoops - sorry Baby!

The Full Pack Is Back

Baby is FINALLY out of heat. Man that seemed to last forever!!!!!!! I wonder if Kee Kee's visit extended Aunt Flow's visit? Anywho - it's over now and all of the dogs in the house are enjoying a peaceful and playful existence.

When the girls are in heat, their access to the fun-times in the backyard are limited - for obvious reasons. Baby is a true backyard lover and she has missed her romps. She took full advantage today. So much so that we had to physically pick her and and bring her back inside by hand!

Blue Is Back!

Now that her standing heat is over she has finally joined the rest of the boys. She really loves playing with the boys more than anything so she is truly loving life again. It is kinda cute to watch Dewey as he watches her every move. It is as if he is telling the others. "That's ma lady" teehee
